Our Values

As Democrats, we believe that we will fight for EVERYONE, regardless of race, sex, age, color, creed, national origin, ethnic identity, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, economic status, or disability.

Diversity is our Strength. Healthcare is a Right. The Economy should work for Everyone.

Democracy Is Worth Defending!

Dream it

Build it

Grow it

Dream it • Build it • Grow it •

DEMOCRACY

We believe in judicious stewardship of public revenues and affirm that a public office is a public trust. We believe in honest, ethical, transparent and accountable government.

HEALTHCARE & HUMAN SERVICES

We believe that adequate health care and housing must be accessible to all and that homelessness, illiteracy, and poverty must be eradicated from every corner of our State.

ECONOMY

We believe in a balanced approach to offering incentives to grow local businesses and to attract new business. We support attracting new green energy businesses. We support continued efforts to provide a skilled and educated workforce, a solid infrastructure, a competitive business climate, and a quality of life that attracts and creates good new jobs to provide a higher standard of living for all North Carolinians– especially in our low-wealth communities.

LGBTQIA+

We believe that all human beings deserve the opportunity to realize their own potential, to find love, to express themselves, and to celebrate publicly within our community the joy that this journey has been. And they deserve these opportunities in a space that is without judgment and safe from harm. We call for a statewide ban on the discredited conversion therapy which seeks to force LGBTQ+ persons to disavow their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression

CIVIL & HUMAN RIGHTS

We believe the government must provide a safety net covering the basic human needs of all citizens and should work to enrich their quality of life. To fulfill this responsibility, all persons should have the opportunity to develop their talents and abilities. We believe that every North Carolinian should have adequate food, clothing, shelter, health care, and work. We believe that all people have a right to live, and that we, as a society, have a responsibility to help those persons in need: distressed families, the unemployed, the underemployed, the homeless, the formerly and currently incarcerated, persons with disabilities, and those with mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders. We must eliminate food deserts and food insecurity. We must eradicate hunger.

LAW & JUSTICE

We believe in firm and effective law enforcement and the swift and fair prosecution and rehabilitation of those who engage in criminal activity. We believe that adequate procedural safeguards are essential to the protection of those wrongly accused and the preservation of life liberty.

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Women demand complete control over their bodies and healthcare decisions. We believe that every woman, including trans identified individuals, should have access to prenatal and postnatal care and appropriate counseling, as well as access to information and counseling regarding all choices related to pregnancies. We believe that a woman's decisions regarding pregnancy should be her own choice and not that of the government. We believe that we should focus on preventing unintended pregnancies and reducing the need for abortion through increasing access to family planning services, access to affordable birth control – including emergency contraception – and by providing comprehensive ageappropriate sex education. Furthermore, abortion must be safe, legal, accessible to all North Carolina women regardless of ability to pay; therefore, the State abortion fund should be fully funded and accessible to indigent women. Therefore the North Carolina General Assembly must codify people’s rights to reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy.

LAW & JUSTICE

We believe in firm and effective law enforcement and the swift and fair prosecution and rehabilitation of those who engage in criminal activity. We believe that adequate procedural safeguards are essential to the protection of those wrongly accused and the preservation of life liberty.

EDUCATION

We believe that democracy cannot survive without education and therefore commit ourselves to a well-funded public education system that treats educators with dignity and respect

ENVIRONMENT

We believe in the protection and preservation of our environment and mitigation of climate change as our state and nation’s health and economic wellbeing depends on a well-cared for environment. We support the reduction of carbon emissions by 80% by 2030.

ECONOMIC & RURAL DEVELOPMENT

We support statewide, county, and municipal initiatives for equitable and affordable access to broadband in North Carolina. In addition we consider broadband to be a utility and should be broadly available to all communities across North Carolina like electricity.

AGRICULTURE & LABOR DEVELOPMENT

We support the right of working people to organize and join unions - including labor, professional, and civil employees, and to collectively bargain for wages and working conditions without any unfair interference or threats from employers.

We support efforts that will aid our farmers in adjusting to social, economic and environmental challenges in a manner that allows them to increase efficiency, productivity, and profitability. We categorically oppose tariffs that directly or indirectly affect the agricultural community in the state.

We are unshakeable in our commitment to fairness, freedom, justice and equity as we pursue a society that is more prosperous, better educated, safer, and healthier.

On this platform we proudly stand.
